Arcade Games where first invented in the 1970s and became that popular that one day people played a single penis arcade game that the coin holder broke inside the game through far too many coins being held inside. Orignally games were made in the early 40s with a out of space type game called space wars but displayed as a radar. How the radar game was made was a mishmash of components and made into a sensor radar game in the earlt 1961. For the Next 3 decades from 1970 to 1990 the arcade and artari where the mosy popular and most played games ever and that is all thanks to Nolen Brushnel until the north america video game crash of 1983 to 1985 whch became a massive recession by the gaming companies went from 3.5 billlion dollers all the way down to 100 million dollers in 1985. Analyst found out afterwards that the consoles couldn't survive after a couple of years as data can't always last. After the recession
the nintendo entertainment system picked up afterwards and became even more popular as it became the first console to start the console gaming age of "hardcore gamers". Aftrer NES saga came out and became another sole mainstream console as it made countless copies from the master system to the overdrive in the early 90s and then the playstation consoles from 1994 and 2001 etc. All the consoles which came out in each year have improved from being a massive brick of a console to a smaller piece of hardware plus the graphics got better as it first started from pixel blocks to make a character to artistic drawings made 2D and 3D.
Nolen bushnel is a great influentail person who helped bring the arcade along to become greater from what it was first made to be. Nolen partnered with Ted dabney made the artari and made it worldwide along with .
Week 2
The history of gaming consoles goes back almost 40 years with the first generation going all the way along to 2013 with the eighth generation.
The first Generation
Console is the magnovox odyssy which was made in 1977 along with the atari console. The advantages of the first generation is that back in the 70s it was that you didn't have to go out amd pay to play the game for an hour and pay to play again. The disadvantages are that the graphics where even worse than the Arcade game versions such as Pac-Man and Pong.
Second Generation
The second Generation brought out a console called the Fairchild Channel F which is the first console to have a ROM programmable catridge and a micro processor. Soon after the Fairchild console Atari and RCA brought out there own consoles with microprocessors. In 1977 there was a video game crash as fairchild and RCA had to leave the video game business as new companies brought out newer consoles with pong started to be sold a lot more than usual but Atari and Magnavox stayed in the console business dispite the loss of that year and of 78. of the years the game industry was given a massive hit thanks to 1977 but dispite magnavox bringing out odyssey the game industry didn't truly revive till Atari introduced space invaders in 1980 which hit the market like a big wave and is still a somewhat popular arcade game till this day. In 1983 the games consoles suffered yet another crash for the second generation of consoles as more low quality video game consoles were made by other companies and atari bringing out E.T and pac-man didn't really get the crowd hyped up enough for them to pay for the new releases.
Third Generation
Even though it has been years that the games consoles died and become very unpopular that is where nintendo comes in and saves the day as in 1983 Nintendo brought out there very first family console the nintendo entertainment system (NES), Super Mario Bros is nintendo very first game and mario is their mascot that is still running strong till this day. The reason why nintendo sold and woon the console war to revitalize the gaming industries is because there console is able to support better graphics from that of generation 1 and 2 as mario bros as we all know has colour and it looks like an every day 2D game which would mean that mario bros is the first 2D game that isn't an arcade game.As nintendo had dominated and had the publics attention more than Atari and all the smaller game companies there was a new games console that came out called Saga Master System that tried to compete with NES but sadly the master system didn't get enough attention in america and japan as nintendo does but in europe and South america (PAL regions). Saga managed to become popular and competing with NES all the way through the 90s as Saga brought out the Mega Drive
Fourth Generation
As the war with NES And saga rages on with the new consoles of Saga Megadrive/ Genesis and the SUPER Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) new games was introduced that hit the public with amazement such as Sonic the hedgehog (Sagas Mascot) and Super Mario World for the SNES both games that are loved, respected and even played to this day.
Fifth Generation
In 1993 Atari Jaguar made a comeback to their loss with the third generation by making the jaguar series which outclasses the SNES and Sage Mega Drive. the 3DO came out the same time as the Atari Jaguar but it even though it wasn't as powerful as Jaguar it was more powerful than the mega drive and the SNES as it uses a CD-ROM as a media device instead of the catridge that all the other consoles have been using so far. To compete with the compatition Saga and SNES introduced Donkey Kong Country (SNES) and Virtua Racing (Saga). Apple started to compete with this generation of games with there console version of apple macintosh called the Apple Bandia Pippin but it didn't stay long as it wasn't a very popular buy. It wasn't till the next consoles were introduced that really intrested people to the console market place as Nintendo made their new console called the Nintendo 64 (which was a top end nintendo 3D console and became quite popular with the recent 2D and 3D pokemon games), Saga saturn (which introduced games such as dark stalkers and marvel heroes vs streetfighter) and with the new release of sonys first ever console called the Playstation (PS1/PSX) which became a massive hit early in its development as Crash Bandacoot (PS1 mascot)became a massive hit with the audience.
Sixth Generation
The next generation in 1998 started the consoles of with DVD-ROM disks (minus Saga dreamcast and gamecube) as all the consoles became graphically better which means it needed more disk space that DVD-ROM provided and 1995 was the rise of the DVD which all the consoles took advantage of. To start the consoles of for this generation was the Saga dreamcast which gave birth to Phantasy Star Online which is a popular game of this day but unfortunatly for Saga the dreamcast died in 2001 as the Playstation 2 took everything away with it's betteer games and sleek black design but Saga has from then to know stayed on the software as they are still making games for the playstation and nintendo consoles. The Playstation 2 was released in 2000 with the PS1 getting a new and slimmer design that very same year, what made this console popular was that it could play DVD disc games aswell as DVD films which made this the must have console of that generation. In 2001 Nintendo brought out the Nintendo gamecube which was a favourite to the nintendo fans and some of the Playstation fans as it played a re mastered 3D game of metal gear solid and more pokemon games. In 2002 Microsoft like apple decided to make their first gaming console called the XBOX which began the console hard drives and the support of ethernet cables and unlike Apples dead console the xbox lived and survived thanks to games such as Fable and the Halo franchise.
Seventh Generation
The seventh generation began the Blu-ray era thanks to Sony and Phillips (the makers) which came to the Playstation 3 and the High Defination DVD format for Microsofts XBOX 360. What all of this generation have in common is that they all support wireless controllers. Microsoft made a new console called the Xbox 360 in 2005 that took the consumers by storm with more of the halo franchise and fable franchise plus many more and this console is still played to this day with more upgrades better online features and more gadgets for the xbox 360 such as the kinnect which is a hands free sensor much like the nintendo wii sensor without the need of a type of remote. just like the playstation series the xbox 360 also had a few slimmer designs it took such as the xbox slim in 2010 and its new even slimmer design in 2013 that resembles the Xbox One (8th generation). The Playstation 3 a big favourite to all the playstation fans began in 2006 and is the first console to have blu-ray. The playstation 3 was a popular console to a lot of people as it could work with playstations portable gaming such as the PSP and PSV and you could play your portable games on the console as well as buy your games from the PS3 playstation store. The most favouite PS3 that people loved thwe most was the ps3 original 60 GB as it was the only PS3 to play PS2 games as the playstation 3 wasn't backwards compatable. To compete with the xbox connect and the wii sensor playstation made the playstation move which is a type of remote with a ball on the top which is the sensor itself. The nintendo Wii is nintendos next console that was released in 2006, it is also loved and played by nintendo fans and has gone back to the catridge system rather than the disk as every other console has. Even though Nintendo is purely sensor based it was the playstation 2 eyetoy that began this trend of sensor gaming and even though nintendo wii has many games to its name and has other resident evil franchises as well as nintendo exclusives Nintendo is more involved in its hand held console the Nintendo 3DS as that has more sells in the gaming market.
Eigth Generation
This current generation has the new nintendo wii, Ouya and the recently announced playstation 4 and Xbox One. In June 2013 the OUYA qill be released to the public, OUYA is a android made console as it is similar to the xbox 360 in configuration and how it works is through modding as OUYA allows you (gamer/owner) to be a developer without the need of licensing fees as this console can be used as a developer kit. In November 2012 the wii U was released to the public as a more portable way of playing the nintendo Wii and has full HDMI quality for your playing needs along with a touchpad for you to use on the nintendo wii u pad, the wii U will be competing with the PS4 and Xbox one. The next of the playstation line is the Playstation 4 which is said to be a massive improvement to the Playstation 3 thanks to the graphics card and all the other hardware components. The playstation 4 has many new features just like the Xbox One such as making your own world, characters and landscape and other connectivity features to talk to friends and family on the net. The xbox one is an all in one entertainment system (a new turn from the 360s all gaming system) as it shows it has a lot to do with television as well as gaming. The XB1 has many new features to help talk to friends and family through skype as well as show your leaderboard and gamer currency to other players. Since the XB1 is said to be a purely online and a cloud based storage console microsoft has made restrictions to the XB1 such as if you were to play your console offline for more than a day then you can not play your console for more than 1 day (locked) which makes your console completely obsolete. More restrictions is that you can't share your games unless it is to 1 person and only for 1 hour and only once for the rest of the time that you own the new xbox, xbox ONE no longer cares for disc format as it is completely cloud storage which means itsaves the game data into the cloud storage but to get the game you want you either purchase from the xbox store or buy a disk and have it installed into the console which makes the disk opsolete to you and to others.
